Mission:
Sunnydale, A new Darkness
Location: Rupert Giles' House and Demon Bar
~~ Narration ~~
One thing that would be noticed around Sunnydale was the lack of disturbances. True the Slayers Buffy and Faith would still have a few hits here and there on a good night, but more often than not they would find the streets and other areas quiet. Which was unusual for living on the Hellmouth. If this wasn't strange enough Giles with all his information was finding omens, but when following the leads they bore no fruit when they should. Something was amiss so he had called Buffy and Faith to his place hoping to see if they could get to the bottom of what was going on.
~~ Que the gathering (mwahahaha) ~~
Buffy was the first to arrive and knocked on Giles door, it was bittersweet their reunion. She had lost her sister, which was what brought everyone back to Sunnydale in such a rush.
Giles opened the door and smiled light to her, "Please, do come in." Standing to the side and holding the door open.
Buffy smiled as she walked into Giles, it was hard to fake the smile with losing Dawn and everything else that had already happened. "How are you?" she looked over at the man she considered a friend and mentor.
"I am doing alright. I should ask How are you holding up?"
Buffy couldn't take it anymore, a tear rolled down her cheek and she grabbed Giles and hugged him tightly.
Well, that answered that question, Giles held her against him. He understood her pain after all.
~~ Back Streets ~~
While Buffy joined Giles and Faith for the meeting Giles had called her to about the lack of demon interruptus a figure was moving through the back streets of Sunnydale looking for that very watcher needing to know if the woman that attacked him was Buffy or not. Because he still remembered with frightening clarity the feel of those fangs in his wrinkly neck. And yet he also sensed there was something completely different about her. Clem was looking over his shoulder trying to stay as hidden as possible. He's been avoiding any place with demon activity lately because that blond menace was everywhere.
~~ Giles House ~~
Faith was just starting down the stairs.
Stepping back from Giles and drying her tears Buffy gave a nod and added, "hey Faith."
"Hey." Giving a look but didn't say anything because Faith figured why Buffy might have been crying. "So what are we killing?"
The blonde slayer made her way to the sofa and took a seat, she also wondered why Giles had called them there.
"There are a bunch of supernaturals being hunted, and we know that you two have not done it. So someone else is doing as such of what we would consider innocents." Giles gave a pause a moment, "So ah. Yes, that needs to be looked into more than I already have. The main place would be the bar."
"Nothing like a trip to the demon bar to dig up some info" she looked over at Faith and gave a shrug.
~~ From Outside Giles House ~~
There was a knock at the back door to Giles' home.
Buffy looked at Giles with a curious look "expecting more company?" she asked before glancing over at Faith.
There was more knocking from the door.
Giles shook his head, "No, just you two."
There was more knocking it sound more urgent, or maybe just worried if you can hear that from a knock. Maybe reminiscent of when Spike used to knock when the sun was up and his blanket didn't completely cover.
Faith looked at the door and got to it before Buffy did. However, she looked at this time instead of just kicking it and stabbing. "Clem What in the hell. Don't you have a phone."
Clem looked to Faith thankful that she didn't just attack, then when he saw Buffy in the background his face paled considerably in fear. "Stay away!" he yelled at the other slayer. "She's a vampire she bit me when I was on my way home from the demon bar two nights ago!" Clem said pointing at Buffy shaking in fear.
"What?" Buffy asked with a confused look on her face and turned to Faith and then Giles "So not a vampire" the Slayer added sarcastically.
Clem blinked at her, "You think I don't know who bit me and left me for dead!?" He looked a little closer at the vampire slayer. "Wait, you're older? She looked just like you, but when you were Sixteen." Clem pointed out blinking again his big eyes pushing back the wrinkles around his face as he blinked.
"What are you talking about Clem?" Buffy raised an eyebrow.
"I'm talking about you, a younger-looking you right down to the freckles on your face biting me and leaving me for dead," Clem said pointing to the two vampire pinprick marks in the folds of his neck.
Faith shook her head, "She's not a vampire, Geez." Rolling her eyes.
Giles gave a look though, "Why don't you come into the kitchen and I will get you a cup of tea. You can calmly tell us what happened."
Clem glared at Faith but turned back to Giles. "I would appreciate that, I've been looking over my shoulder all day expecting her to show up again." Clem entered the house as invited and followed Giles.
It would take a few minutes for the water to boil, in the meantime, "So, run that down for us."
Faith followed in as well.
"I was walking home from our Wednesday night game of poker with the guys. On my way she" Clem points to Buffy again, "Or rather her look-alike was suddenly standing before her. She looked confused when I called her Buffy and asked if I was friends with the slayer," Clem said explaining as the Tea did it's brewing and continued to explain how the girl attacked him biting him in the neck and feeding from him even as Giles poured the Tea.
"When she let me drop her exact words to me were, 'If you're still alive, I would stay still for a while, else my watcher might just finish what I started.' Clem finished his explanation.
Buffy looked over at Faith raising an eyebrow and crossing her arms. "Watcher?" Buffy looked over at Giles as she asked the question with a note of concern to her voice.
"What?" Faith was already on ready to kill Clem. Obviously having to be stopped.
"So..you were bitten, and not turned, also told a watcher was behind that. There is no watcher I know of that would ever harbor a vampire that had ill intent." Giles said. Yes he knew, there was Angel and Spike. That was different.
Clem let out a yelp and ran from Faith to hide behind Giles. "I'm telling you what I witnessed! why would I lie!?" Clem demanded ready to get the hell out of Sunnydale. there were just too many slayers in it for her liking. Not to mention Slayers that were also vampires. "Do you even realize that she's behind the fire that was on the news this afternoon!?" Clem added.
"There has to be an explanation" Buffy piped in, she knew she didn't start any fire and knew she wasn't a vampire. She remembered she had the cross necklace on that Giles had given her and pulled it out of her shirt and said "look Clem wearing a cross" and shrugged "so I've got a look-alike and we need to find them" she looked over at Faith.
"Yeah, yeah..." Faith sighed a little bit.
"Yes yes." Clem said seeing the cross, "Maybe I should go before she knows I've been here." He said afraid the Buffy look-alike would come after him again.
"And just..ah, would she be, Clem? You are safe in this house." Giles said. Thus far anyway.
Buffy gave a nod toward Clem "Faith and I will protect you."
Clem looked at Faith and Buffy as if he had his doubts, "If you're sure, but she set the fire to the house, what makes you think she won't just set this place on fire?" Clem asked them.
"If you haven't noticed, we're not exactly normal and know more about this stuff than anyone here," Faith said.
"That I have no doubt in, but it's Buffy saying you'll protect me that I lack faith in," Clem said smiling at his own humor.
Buffy rolled her eyes and looked over at Faith "okay Faith will protect you."
