Mission:
Sunnydale, A new Darkness
Location: Las Vegas
Timeline: Midnight
Buffy Summers had spent the last month in Las Vegas, she was working as a cocktail waitress in one of the smaller and less popular casinos. It let her blend in well and there weren't to many people around so the chances that someone might actually recognize her were slim. She actually even liked the job, except for the random jerk who would slap her on the rear end as she walked by. She would have to count to ten to keep from knocking him off his stool or snapping his arm, even if it was what she really wanted to do.
The uniforms the cocktail girls, as they were called, were pretty skimpy. A sequin red or black dress that didn't cover a whole lot, a pair of heels, and a semi cute little hat. The only good thing that was coming out of the experience was the easy hundred bucks a night you could make and the fact that Buffy could do just about anything in a pair of heels.
Buffy and one of the other girls had just ended their shifts, hung up their uniforms and changed into something more practical. Jessica of course was a show girl at another establishment and was wearing next to nothing when they walked out of the back entrance. Of course staff had to park on the other side of the parking lot, just incase the house was busy that night and they needed to park cars in the back for valet.
"Well night" Buffy said with a smile when they had made it to Jessica's car.
"What's that" Jess said in her Jersey accent, looking around Buffy, squinting to see what appeared to be a young lady being assaulted by a larger male. "I'm gonna call the cops" Jessica said pulling out her phone.
"No" Buffy said, the hair on the back of her neck standing up. It had been quite sometime since she had seen one of them, but this was a vampire and she knew the cops wouldn't be able to help this girl. "Just go get security" Buffy suggested turning back to face Jessica "and I'll get his attention" she added.
"But" the girl from Jersey started to argue.
"Just go" Buffy said almost harshly, she knew she didn't have time to argue with Jessica. She also knew she didn't want her friend to watch her slay a vampire and her secret get out.
As the victim screamed for help, you could hear an almost growl coming from the hellish creature attacking her. It was then Buffy heard Jessica's heels clacking away as she ran for the building to get security.
"HEY" Buffy was already behind the vamp and tapping him on the shoulder. She noticed the young girl had already passed out, probably from blood loss and fear.
"Desert" he said turning toward the blonde girl and smiling an evil smile, reaching out grabbing Buffy by the arms.
"Yeah" she headbutted him, causing him to release his grip. "I'm afraid" she kicked him in the chest causing him to slam against a dumpster "you're gonna be disappointed" luckily for the Slayer there was an old broom sticking out of the dumpster and she quickly snapped off a piece and staked the vamp. She could hear the ambulance in the distance and security and Jessica coming across the parking lot.
An hour later she was finally walking into her front door. She would have normally already been home, taken a shower and in bed. Tonight the slayer ran a bath and enjoyed a glass of wine and a second glass while she watched her favorite television show. With a yawn and stretch Buffy decided it was time for bed and turned out the lights, she got comfy in bed and quickly drifted off to sleep in a few minuets before midnight.
Tossing and turning, covered in sweat "no" Buffy muttered out softly she saw her sister Dawn and Ethan Rain she tried to run into the room, but couldn't. It was then she saw her sisters death, a horrible death and sat straight up screaming "DAWN." She instantly reached for her cell phone and turned on the light beside her bed, it was ringing "come on" the slayer said nervously.
There was no answer...
Jumping out of bed, slipping into a pair of jeans, a tshirt and running shoes she packed most of her clothing and tossed the few personal items she had in her suitcase. Quickly making her way into her kitchen she grabbed the envelope under the ice maker and ran out side and jumped in her 2000 Honda Civic and hit the road. It would take her just over five hours to get to Sunnydale, she had heard they were rebuilding the town, but had now idea Dawn was there.
Buffy knew now it was a mistake not keeping in contact with anyone, she had spent the last six months or so taking time and living a normal life. She dated a guy that talked her into moving to Vegas and then stole the money she had saved up and left her in Vegas high and dry. Of course she found a job quickly and bounced back just fine, she hadn't done anything slayer related until earlier that night for almost a year as far as she could remember.
Now she was headed back to Sunnydale to see if her sister had been murdered. She dialed Dawn's number again, only to get her voice mail "Hey it's me, I know I haven't been the best lately" she paused a second and let out a huff "please just call me back... it's urgent."
The Slayer couldn't help but let her mind drift as she drove in the dark, hardly anyone on the road with her. The last time she was in the town she was rushing back toward, they faced their biggest challenge and destroyed an entire city.
